Dog Food for Wheaten Terriers
The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier began as an all-purpose farm dog in Ireland, herding, guarding, and keeping the barn free of vermin. Wheatens are bouncy, friendly, and famous for the enthusiastic "Wheaten greetin'." They usually weigh 30 to 40 lb and have a single, silky, wheat-colored coat that sheds very little but grows continuously and tangles easily without regular grooming.
Like Poodles and doodles, Wheatens have hair rather than fur, so coat care starts with what's in the bowl.
Why Your Best Friend fits Wheaten Terriers
Support for a silky coat
Omega-3 fatty acids (1.5% min), zinc, vitamin E (400 IU/kg min), and biotin support healthy skin and a soft, shiny coat that keeps growing.
Gentle on sensitive stomachs
Salmon and fish are the protein, with no chicken, corn, wheat, or soy, plus pre-, pro-, and postbiotics for steady digestion.
Right-sized energy
A moderate 385 calories per cup makes it easy to fuel a lively medium-sized dog without overfeeding.
Heart health, guaranteed
Guaranteed taurine (0.10% min) and L-Carnitine (300 mg/kg min), in one formula from puppyhood through the senior years.
How much to feed a Wheaten Terrier
These are starting points for an average adult with a normal activity level. Adjust to keep your dog lean. Most Wheatens do well with the 14 lb bag or a 28 lb bag on a longer delivery schedule.
| Adult weight | Cups per day | A 28 lb bag lasts about |
|---|---|---|
| 30 lb | 2 | 8½ weeks |
| 35 lb | 2¼ | 7½ weeks |
| 40 lb | 2½ | 7 weeks |
Puppies need more food per pound than adults, so split their daily amount into three or four meals. Your vet can help you fine-tune portions as your puppy grows.
